There were number of surprises when Warner Bros. and Legnedary Pictures' short list of potential stars for their adaptation of Katsuhiro Otomo’s "Akira" surfaced last month, but perhaps most compelling was the inclusion of Robert Pattinson -- in the company of Andrew Garfield and James McAvoy, no less -- as a potential Tetsuo.
The 24-year-old "Twilight" icon has dealt in the supernatural to be sure, but MTV News wanted to find out for sure if Pattinson was interested in playing a pill-popping psychic motorcycle gang leader with the power to destroy Tokyo.
The upcoming "Water for Elephants" star told MTV News that while he's an "Akira" fan, he's far from certain of his place in the potential film just yet.
"I love the movie," he said. "But, I mean, I don’t know. I’ve seen the same thing as anybody else has, really."
When asked to clarify Pattinson confirmed that he hasn't been involved with any forward movement on an "Akira" film just yet, although he does like its style.
"Yeah, no nothing. I mean, I like motorbikes," chuckled Pattinson before responding to a question that would be near to "Akira" protagonist Kaneda's heart -- whether or not he has a motorbike himself.
"Uh, no. I kind of want to have [a motorbike] though. But like I don’t think I ever will get one of those either," Pattinson said.
