Last night, the premiere for Red Riding Hood took place in Hollywood, California, and Catherine Hardwicke (director of the film and Twilight) and Nikki Reed ("Rosalie Hale" in the Twilight Saga) joined stars from the film like Amanda Seyfried, Shiloh Fernandez, and Gary Oldman on the red carpet for the event (note: while Billy Burke does star in Red Riding Hood, he has been busy in Vancouver, British Columbia filming The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, so chances are that is why he was not in attendance).
While on the premiere line, several outlets posed the question of how the film relates to Twilight, aside from being directed by Hardwicke and featuring Burke.
Per USA Today, the question was fielded rather well by Catherine Hardwicke.
"It kind of starts in that (Twilight) world, two people madly crazy in love . . . But then a murder happens right away and it completely turns around. The cool thing about Twilight was that we had to be in this world, present day. You had to believe that vampires could really show up at your high school and be wearing jeans, but in (Red Riding Hood) we got to make our own fairy tale world."
The same was true in her Access Hollywood interview (attached), which also brought out cast responses to the question. Amanda Seyfried's response was interesting for that one because she admitted that the two films share a similar audience of interest, and she hopes Twilight fans will see and enjoy the film, but she also stated the storylines are very different.
Nikki Reed was likely there to support Catherine Hardwicke, with whom she's had a strong relationship since she was a teenager and worked on Thirteen with her.
Red Riding Hood opens this weekend nationwide. Are you excited to see Catherine Hardwicke's next film?
