Summit sues hackers over BD leaked scenes

A lawsuit, filed by Summit Entertainment in a Los Angeles court accuses Daiana and Hector Santia, who live in Argentina, of hacking into secure computers, stealing images and posting them on social networking sites.

The pair are accused of posting multiple images from Breaking Dawn online on March 31.

The lawsuit claims others who have not been identified may also be responsible.

Starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, Breaking Dawn is a two-part movie that forms the fourth and final instalment in The Twilight Saga series.

The first part is due for release in November, with the second in November 2012.

Summit has blasted the leaks, saying it is unfair to the majority of Twilight fans to have unfinished work posted online.

'Twilight' film studio going after 'Breaking Dawn' photo leaker

As you know, a few weeks ago, several images from The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn were leaked to the internet, causing the filmmakers to reach out to Twilight fans with a request not to look at or distribute the images for the sake of maintaining the element of surprise.

Later, Robert Pattinson expressed his dismay over the matter, saying "Twilight fans, punish them. Police your own."

Now, it seems, film studio Summit Entertainment is taking action on the matter. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio has "filed a lawsuit against ten John Does . . . so that Summit could serve subpoenas and identify anonymous individuals who were distributing photos on Twitter."

Summit/Filmmaker Statement Regarding 'Breaking Dawn' Leaks

Filmmaker Statement Regarding Breaking Dawn Leaks

Dear Twilight Saga fans,

As some of you may know, pictures and screen grabs of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn as a work in progress have leaked on the internet. We are extremely proud of this film and also extremely heartbroken to see it out there at this stage.

The film and these images are not yet ready or in their proper context. They were illegally obtained and their early dissemination is deeply upsetting to the actors, the filmmakers and Summit who are working so hard to bring these movies to fruition to you in November 2011 and November 2012.

Please, for those who are posting, stop. And please, though the temptation is high, don’t view or pass on these images. Wait for the film in its beautiful, finished entirety to thrill you.

Sincerely,

Stephenie Meyer, Bill Condon, Wyck Godfrey and Summit Entertainment

Summit Entertainment’s Post ‘Twilight’ plans are ‘Divergent’

Taking a page from its “Twilight” success, Summit Entertainment is putting its future in the hands of book adaptations. A few years ago, Summit convinced Stephenie Meyer to sell her “Twilight Saga,” and $750 million later, we think they might be on to something. As they close the final chapter on the popular franchise, Summit is sucking up book rights like a hungry vampire.

‘Twilight’ Maker Summit Seeks $800 Million for Films

Summit Entertainment LLC, maker of the “Twilight” vampire movies, is seeking to raise $800 million to repay debt, finance production and pay a dividend to its investors.

The proposed refinancing includes a $600 million, seven- year term loan and a $200 million revolving credit facility, New York-based Moody’s Investors Service said today in a report giving the company a B1, non-investment grade rating.

The company plans to pay a special distribution to investors, according to the report. They include investment banker Rizvi Traverse Management and Participant Media, a Beverly Hills, California-based film production company founded by former EBay Inc. President Jeff Skoll, according to both companies’ websites.

The majority of the equity “remains in the company,” Paul Pflug, a Summit spokesman, said in an interview. The studio, based in Santa Monica, California, sought the refinancing in “the normal course of business,” he said.

Summit is benefiting from “significant” cash flow from the “Twilight” films that reduces risk for investors, Moody’s said. The first three movies in the series generated $1.8 billion in global ticket sales, according to Box Office Mojo, an industry researcher. Two more films are planned.

Financing is being arranged by JPMorgan Chase & Co. and UBS AG, according to two people with knowledge of the plans.

Summit, formed in 2007 with funding from investors including Merrill Lynch, was in talks last year with creditors of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. on a possible tie-up.
