Stephenie Meyer’s The Host is being adapted to film and will be directed by Andrew Niccol and star Soairse Ronan. And now we have a release date! From The Playlist:
THR reveals that “The Host,” set to be directed by “Gattaca” helmer Andrew Niccol withSaorise Ronan to star, will hit theaters on March 29, 2013. Based on the novel by “Twilight” writer Stephenie Meyer, the story is set in the near future where alien parasite “souls” benevolently take over the consciousness of humans. One such “soul” named Wanderer inhabits the body of a dying woman, Melanie Stryder, who just happens to be obsessed with finding the last group of surviving humans. The high concept film will find Ronan taking both roles of Wanderer and Melanie in the picture, which is certainly an intriguing prospect.
Newbie distributors Open Road are taking on the movie and are certainly hoping that Twihards will follow en masse to the next Meyer-related flick. Niccol won’t have much time to rest either. He’s currently in post-production on his sci-fi flick “In Time” with Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, Cillian Murphy, Olivia Wilde and Alex Pettyfer for a fall release and he’ll gear up to start shooting “The Host” in February next year.
