Campaign Launched to get Michael Sheen Knighthood

After the huge success of The Passion, and all that it has meant to the city of Port Talbot, there has been a new campaign started for Michael Sheen to be knighted. Not only is the campaign started, but most people it sounds like, agree! Read more below:

So a campaign has begun for Michael Sheen to be knighted for his Herculean efforts in making the outdoor epic The Passion a global success.

As a Port Talbot boy, I couldn’t agree more with those behind the online movement.

I’ve got a friend working in Hong Kong who excitedly texted me over the Easter weekend to say: “I’m in Hong Kong and Port Talbot’s on telly!”

Around 12,000 visitors filled the sun-washed town for the Bank Holiday weekend event and pictures of the contemporary reworking of Christ’s last days flooded news sites across the world.

We all know of Port Talbot’s “dirty old town” reputation, the oily, noisy engine room of Wales, the place people like to pass through quickly on the M4.

But this was a new Port Talbot.

A place where people flocked to, a place where things were happening, a place where the latest in a stable of home grown Hollywood film stars decided to come back to his roots and rock the place.

Sheen himself, who grew up in Baglan overlooking the old BP Baglan chemical plant, which at night looked like a passing space ship, said the town itself was the inspiration for his vision of The Passion.
